Julie Gooding had a solid win in the Waggaroos Summer Series Orienteering event last Thursday evening.

Commencing next to Gissing Oval participants had a choice of 45 minutes or 30 minutes to find the answers to a series of questions about the Turvey Park area. Each correct answer scored points and points were deducted for exceeding the time limit.

Thirty three questions were on offer with a total score of 245 possible. Scores were relatively low reflecting the fact that questions of higher value were much further away so participants concentrated on obtaining numerous low-value answers rather than a few high-score answers.

Julie Gooding won the 30 minute course with a good score of 85 points. Her effort also won her handicap honours for the evening. Wes Campbell suffered a small time penalty for exceeding the time limit but still managed to finish in second place with 70 points.

The battle for third place was very close with Bob Moore (65) just edging out Belinda Chai and the Farrell family group.

Jonathan Holland went through the finish so fast the organisers could not collect his score!

Kade Mavroudis was the only participant on the 45 minute course and did well to collect 95 points.

Next week the Summer Series continues from Marylands Way in Bourkelands starting at 6pm.
