The 2nd Sunday Summer series event proved to be a pleasant stroll around Wagga's northernmost suburb of Estella last Sunday. The Estella area is highlighted by the many laneways and parks, making for lots of off-road route options.
Clever course planning by Wes Campbell resulted in the northern part of the course containing the majority of the questions, most of which were of lower points value, whilst the southern part of the course had fewer questions but all were of higher points value. Deciding which way to go became a critical decision.
On the 30 minute course Deb Davey and the Metcalfe family group both focussed on the northern component of the course. Deb finished with 2½ minutes to spare and a good score of 120 points. The Metcalfe family, Imogen, Zoe and Fiona, found one more answer than Deb but in doing so exceeded the time limit and suffered a time penalty which reduced their score also to 120 points.
Alex Davey just edged out John Oliver on the 45 minute course. Alex focussed on the periphery of northern area to start with and then moved into the southern area picking up some of the higher value answers. By contrast, John went to the southern area first and finished in the central part of the northern area. It worked slightly better for Alex who finished with an excellent 195 points compared with John’s 190. Shane McMullen was just off the pace finishing in third place with a healthy 180 points.
The 3rd event in the series will be held on Sunday 8th December, starting and finishing in the park on the corner of Sherwood Ave and Kilpatrick St in Kooringal. Starts between 9:00 am and 10:00 am.
