The competition was close in the second of the Waggaroos Summer Series of orienteering events in Kooringal last Thursday evening.

Commencing at Henwood Park participants had a choice of 45 minutes or 30 minutes to find the answers to a series of questions about the Kooringal area between Lake and Kooringal Roads. This included identifying particular garden ornaments, phone numbers on signs and the colour of letterboxes at specific addresses. Each correct answer scored points and points were deducted for exceeding the time limit. 24 questions were on offer for a total of 230 points.

On the 45 minute course Briohny Seaman and Alex Davey both amassed an excellent 150 points to tie for first place. Third place went to junior orienteer Lachlan Billett with a very good 135 points. Andrew Earl improved on his effort the previous week to finish fourth with 125 points and take out handicap honours for the evening.

It was just as close on the 30 minute course with Debbie Davey and Geri Louis tying for first place with 65 points each. Considering it was just Geri’s second event with the WaggaRoos this was a great effort. Bob Moore and Julie Gooding tied for third place scoring 60 points. The Crossett family also did very well finishing with a solid 50 points

In the Priest family competition Steven and Charlotte scored 50 points to finish just ahead of Bernadette and Harriet (45 points).

The last of the Summer Series of Orienteering events for 2015 will commence at 6pm next Thursday evening 10 December from the playground at the corner of Kimberley Dr and Fitzroy St Tatton.
