Summer Series in full swing

Geoff Breese won the second Waggaroos Summer Series of Orienteering event conducted at Rawlings Park last Thursday evening.

Participants had a choice of 30 or 45 minutes to find the answers to questions about the local area. Each correct answer scored points and points were deducted for exceeding the chosen time limit. Questions included identifying the numbers on light poles, the colour of the flower pots at number 14, and how long Jack Skeers lived in Wagga Wagga.

Most opted for the 45 min time limit. Starting at the eastern end of Angel St most people were tempted to head north by two high scoring control sites reasonably nearby. From there options reduced unless you headed further north towards Vincent Rd or turned back and climbed the hill at the south east end of Rawlings Park.

On the 45 min Geoff Breese returned to orienteering after a prolonged absence and was straight back into the groove, having an excellent run that took in most of the control sites. His score was reduced slightly because he exceeded the time limit but it was still enough to just hold Alex Davey into second place and win handicap honours for the evening. John Oliver finished third.

A number of juniors participated with the best being Kade Mavroudis who scored a very good 100 points and finished equal 5th overall in spite of some difficulties at one location. Eddie McDougall also did well to pick up 75 points
