Geoff Breese and the Cubis family had breakthrough wins
at event 3 of the Waggaroos Summer Series of Orienteering last
Thursday evening.
Courses started from the park in Delvin Pl Kooringal and took participants around the area bounded by Kooringal and Lake Roads looking for answers to questions about the area within a set time limit. Points were awarded for correct answers and deducted for exceeding the nominated time limit. Participants were challenged with 21 questions worth a total of 225 points. Most participants chose to stay in the flatter southern area rather than venture up Rocky Hill although some decided to take the hill on early while they were fresh. On the 45 minute course it was reasonably close. Geoff Breese had his first win of the summer after having come second in the previous two events. The hill did not deter Geoff and he managed to get almost all answers. Despite losing several points for exceeding the time limit he still scored 190 points which was enough to hold off all challengers. Iain Crossett usually wanders around with his family but the inclement weather put the others off allowing him to compete by himself. He made the most of the opportunity and scored strongly to finish in second place just 10 points off the pace and take out handicap honours for the event. Andrew Earl and John Oliver tied for third place with 170 points each and Ian Jessup and Geri Louis were not far behind. On the 30 minute course the Cubis family did very well amassing a solid 80 points for their first win. Wes Campbell (65) and the Farrell family (60) took the minor placings. Results:
