Briohny Seaman and Joannah McDougall excelled in Event 1 of the Waggaroos 2017-18 Summer Series of Orienteering last Thursday evening.

Starting in the Victory Memorial Gardens participants had 30 minutes to find the answers to as many questions possible about features around the Gardens and Civic precinct. Points were awarded for finding a correct answer and points were deducted for exceeding the time limit. Questions included extracting dates or names from various monuments and plaques, identifying a specific plant in the sensory garden, and counting specific items in particular locations.

Briohny Seaman, Alex Davey and Trent Seaman all managed to answer all 38 questions correctly within the allotted time and earn the maximum 300 points. Briohny did it fastest and was therefore declared the winner. Her time of 18.37 was almost 7 minutes quicker than that of Alex and just over 10 minutes quicker than Trent.

Waggaroos junior Joannah McDougall just failed to obtain maximum points but nonetheless had a terrific run to finish fourth with an excellent 280 points. She just edged out the Izzy Hutchinson, Chantelle Dailey pairing and Michelle Ky who all scored 260 points and all of whom did very well in their first orienteering event of this format.

Event 2 in the Waggaroos Summer Series of Orienteering will commence at 6pm on Thursday 30 November at Wagga Beach.
