John Oliver held off strong challenges from Trent Seaman and Steven Moore to win the Waggaroos orienteering event last Thursday evening.

Because of the hot weather only the 30min time limited event was conducted.

Starting from Kessler Park participants had 30 minute to navigate to specific locations to find the answer to a question about the Tolland and Bourkelands areas. Points were awarded for each correct answer and deducted for exceeding the time limit.

With only a thirty minute time limit and 24 potential locations to visit participants had to be selective. Some chose to work their way north around Tolland towards Leavenworth Dr and Mt Austin High School. Other chose to move south into Bourkelands . And then there was the decision whether to expend the energy to climb to the ridgeline to seek out locations with higher points values, or stay low and visit more, lower valued locations.

John Oliver took the Bourkelands option, started low and then worked his way uphill. It worked and he finished with an excellent 135 points.

Trent Seaman and Steven Moore, went north in slightly different directions but finished with the same score of 120points. Briohny Seaman was not far behind with 110 points.

Trent’s effort earned handicap honours for the second week in a row.
