Breese breezes to another win

Geoff Breese continued his winning ways taking out the third event of the Waggaroos Summer Series of Orienteering.

Held around Turvey Park and Mt Austin, participants had a choice of 30 or 45 minute time limits to find the answers to questions about the area. Answers varied in value and there were penalties for exceeding the chosen time limit.

Catherine Holland set up some interesting challenges tempting participants to run a little further to remote locations to pick up higher point values or work their way around the closer lower value controls.

On the 45 minute course Geoff Breese rose to the challenge to find the answers to 22 of the 23 questions and pick up an exceptional 250 points. This was well ahead of Alex Davey (205 points) and John Oliver (200).

The 30 minute course was much closer. Jonathan Holland pushed daughter Rachel around in the pram to pick up a very good 120 points. Debbie Davey and Pauline Moore tied for second place with 95 points.

Subsequent to the event Waggaroos held their end of season social and awards evening. Debbie Davey capped off an excellent season domestically and internationally to win the NSW W55 Orienteer of Year; Briohny Seaman was 2nd in NSW W21A Orienteer of Year and Alex Davey was 3rd in NSW M55 Orienteer of Year. Wes Campbell won the Waggaroos Orienteer of the Year which is based on a handicap system and Bob Moore was awarded the Sherwood Forest prize as Waggaroos best Course Setter for 2013.
